"Silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation." - Rumi
We've all met them, the self-involved ones, those that rationalise, the very shallow, the weak among us, the materialistic, the ones that smile when they lie. Sadly, we've all met far too many of them in life.
I wonder about these people. Just what do they say to themselves at the end of the day? How did all this begin for them? A heart so closed can't possibly have been born that way…or could it?
Everyone will comprehend their own emotional capacity, judge the promises of others, and will, perhaps for the first time, witness their own depth of commitment.
Compassion, empathy and respect will most definitely battle self-interest, personal gain and pride. Some previously hidden, very fundamental part of ourselves will become visible, well-lit by circumstances or, in some cases, even publicly debated. The key here is to understand that all are a test of self-honesty.
For many much of this will arrive as a sudden but unavoidable conflict, a quick attraction or as a series of reoccurring events or memories. For others, a previously silent friend or lover will demand concrete times, dates or promises...and for others still, the reappearance of a lost love will trigger bizarre social complications. All will test the empathetic heart, all will challenge deeply held values and all actions will be remembered for many years to come.
It's the silent reality that will count, not the words.
So, if love is to take its rightful place in our lives, it's a test that must be passed.
